It was only 25 pitches, but the early word from Curt's first mound session since he developed a shoulder problem last winter was all positive yesterday. The session took place two days earlier than advertised, but it appears that Schilling will throw tomorrow as well, with his total increased to approximately 35. “His complaint was that he threw only 22 strikes,” Francona said.
Schilling threw nothing but fastballs, said Francona, since “we’re still in that arm-shoulder strengthening stage. But, justifiably, he was excited.” Schilling still has weeks to go before the team can begin to envision scheduling landmarks such as throwing to live hitters or making rehab appearances.
